Overview
For my Illustration Portfolio project, I thought about how to combine my passion of illustration and Korean Pop into one big project. I decided to focus my semester-long project on creating a series of 4.5"x2.5" illustrations directly based on the Korean pop girl group GFRIEND and their ninth extended play "Song of the Sirens".
The idea I had in mind is that these illustrations based on each of the six songs in their album and would be mocked up as tarot cards and printed as extra promotional materials for a music fan to collect or showcase along with the physical album packaging.
Deeper Connections to the Group's Music and Concept
With the girl group's shift into a more mysterious and darker concepts, I took inspiration from psychedelic and Art Nouveau styles to create immersive and surreal illustrations that will take a viewer into a different universe. These illustrations were initially sketched out as concepts and thumbnails, then carefully finalized over the course of two months with graphite and lead pencils.
